More Than Just a Smile: Dental Care in the Jungle

When providing dental care improves the quality of life.

Yesterday, Doctors Benji and Abhril, our resident dentists, sent us some patient photos (all shared with the patient's permission). Chriss is a local. She lives a few miles outside of Iquitos. During a recent medical campaign, she learned that she can come to our dental facility to get some much-needed care for her teeth.

In the Loreto Region, where Iquitos is located, geographical isolation plays a major factor in accessing healthcare--not to mention the often prohibitive costs of seeking that care.

Chriss is one of many patients we've seen whose dental hygiene has become debilitated by this lack of access, and so being able to assist her in getting the smile she deserves is not only wonderful for her, but for us, too. The impact of improving health outcomes starts small: once you can assist just one person, you can assist more.

In addition to getting her mouth healthy and helping her with her dental hygiene, we'll be able to restore her smile. Seemingly small acts like these can not only improve health, but they can also help rebuild the confidence lost with the associated dental issues.

But we need your help with the process.

We've launched a campaign on our DonorSee page to help restore Chriss's smile. Donate today, or share with your friends and family, and we can bring hope to Chriss.
